Guest Speaker, AGM 2018

We are delighted to announce that our guest speaker at our upcoming Headington Campus AGM will be Tom Hayes, Oxford City Councillor and Executive Board member for Community Safety. Tom has been leading campaigns for charities, including the disability charity Scope, anti-poverty charity Oxfam GB, and now the mental health charity Restore on Manzil Way. Tom seats on the Executive Board of Oxford City Council, leading the council’s work to build safer and inclusive communities. He works with communities to tackle public drug use and dealing, protect the vulnerable against exploitation and modern slavery, and strengthen our society against hate crime, Islamophobia, and extremism.

Tom is also working alongside UNISON and the Council in an initiative to tackling hate crime against Eastern Europeans in the wake of Brexit and this will be the focus his talk at our AGM. He will be speaking about the challenges people and trade unions will face as Brexit rolls on and what we can do to prevent/ minimise the damage.

We hope you will join us for this important and topical talk.  If you've never attended a branch meeting before, do come and find out more about your union and what it can do for you.
